Read the following excerpt from A Narrative in the Life of Frederick Douglass. Then, answer the question that follows.

I will take to the water. This very bay shall bear me into
freedom. The steamboats steered in a northeast course from North
Point. I will do the same; and when I get to the head of the bay,
I will turn my canoe adrift, and walk straight through Delaware
into Pennsylvania.

In this passage, which technique does Douglass use to vary his sentence structure to make his writing more interesting for his reader?

He includes interesting punctuation in each sentence.
He starts each sentence with the same word.
He switches the order of words in his sentences.
He uses a mix of long and short sentences.

Answers

Answer:

He uses a mix of long and short sentences.

Explanation:

In the given passage, Frederick Douglass uses a mix of long and short sentences to vary his sentence structure and make his writing more interesting for the reader. For instance, the first sentence is a short and declarative sentence that expresses his intention to take to the water to gain freedom. The second sentence is longer and more complex, explaining his plan in detail. Then he uses another short sentence to conclude his thought. By mixing the length of the sentences, Douglass creates a rhythm and flow to his writing, which keeps the reader engaged and interested in the story.

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the area, you need to multiply LxW, (Length x Width) and in this case, since it's a square, the sides are equal. Each side is 18.2 cm, so all we have to do is multiply 18.2 by 18.2, and then we get 331.24, so your answer is option A.

Due friday 9AM:When howling winds whip up in Earth’s largest deserts, it’s time to head for cover. Billowing gusts kick up sand, forming walls of fast-moving dust that can block the sun. “You can’t see anything that’s more than a few meters away,” says Joseph Prospero, an atmospheric chemist at Florida’s University of Miami, who studies dust storms. Grains of sand pelt against your skin like thousands of piercing needles, and musty-smelling grit coats your mouth and nostrils. “The amount of dust that gets in the air feels suffocating,” says Prospero. For people who live in and around the deserts along Earth’s midsection—such as Central Asia’s Gobi Desert and Africa’s Sahara Desert—dust storms frequently disrupt daily routines. “When a storm kicks up, you just have to go inside and wait it out,” says Prospero. But scientists have discovered that the effects of dust storms extend much farther than the deserts’ sandy borders. Global winds lift dust from Asia and Africa and carry it to other continents thousands of miles away, including North America. Now, many scientists are concerned that the grimy visitor may be putting people and other organisms in danger. Hoping to learn more about the storms’ potential health risks, researchers are following the dust trails. WORLD TOUR During the Asian dust storm season—from March through May—winds frequently blow dust clouds eastward across the Pacific Ocean. In just a week, the dust can complete a journey from Asia, over the Pacific, and across the entire United States. As Asia’s storms settle, windstorms begin kicking up dust in Africa’s deserts. Between May and October, African dust drifts westward across the Atlantic Ocean, making its way toward the southeastern coast of the U.S. and islands in the Caribbean Sea. FOUL CLOUDS The billows of traveling dust disrupt air quality—creating hazy skies along their routes. Eventually, the winds slow and can no longer keep the sandy particles airborne. The dust drops from the sky, depositing a gritty film on every exposed surface. Studies have shown that this falling desert dust is actually an important nutrient for plants. “Researchers think that rain forests in the northern Hawaiian Islands are nurtured by Asian dust events,” says Dale Griffin, a microbiologist with the U.S. Geological Survey. 5 10 15
What is the author’s central claim about the windblown dust moving from continent to continent? Use two details from the passage to support your response.According to the author of “A Soft Spot for Crows,” the fact that crows live in cities or towns is an example of their intelligence. Explain the author’s reasoning and tell whether or not it is sound.

Read this excerpt from The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass.

The more I read, the more I was led to abhor and detest my enslavers. . . . I loathed them as being the meanest as well as the most wicked of men. As I read and contemplated the subject, behold! that very discontentment which Master Hugh had predicted would follow my learning to read had already come, to torment and sting my soul to unutterable anguish.

Which statement best describes Douglass's viewpoint?

A. He believes that increased knowledge inspires a greater hatred of injustice.
B. He believes that Master Hugh deeply regrets his harsh treatment and seeks to stop.
C. He believes that Master Hugh’s cruel treatment is severely injuring his well-being.
D. He believes that the material he reads is upsetting to him and Master Hugh.

Answers

Answer: a . This makes the most sense for the excerpt in the question.

Explanation: Although C may be true, the passage begins with the statement that the more he read, the more he hated his enslavers. It goes on to say that Master Hugh had predicted that this would happen if Douglass learned to read.

Answer:a

Explanation:I know nothing

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that "all men are created equal."
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of it, as a final resting place for those who died here, that the nation might live. This we may, in all propriety do. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate1—we can not hallow2, this ground—The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have hallowed it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here; while it can never forget what they did here.
It is rather for us, the living, we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us —that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish3 from the earth.

In passage 2, Lincoln speaks about the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers and says that it is the duty of the people to
A.
honor the fallen by putting an end to the war and live in peace with others.
B.
honor the fallen by preserving the land on which the soldiers sacrificed their lives.
C.
honor the fallen by fighting bravely in the war like the soldiers who lost their lives.

What does the sentence reveal about the author’s point of view? A The author believes that only skilled swimmers should visit Jules’ Lodge.
B The author believes vacationers should be wary of visiting Jules’ Lodge.
C The author believes Jules’ Lodge is a unique location for vacationers.
D The author believes Jules’ Lodge is dangerous and should be avoided.

Answers

Option A. The author believes that that only skilled swimmers should visit Jules' Lodge.

The above option is only correct for the given question.

Option A : The author believes that that only skilled swimmers should visit Jules' Lodge.

The above statement is correct because the author has mentioned that it is only accessible by SCUBA-diving so any highly skilled swimmer who wants to visit or  explore the hotel can do it with all required precautions.

If anyone can make that underground hotel that means any skilled swimmer can visit that hotel.

Option B : The author believes vacationers should be wary of visiting Jules' Lodge.

The above statement is not correct as any vacationer can't visit that hotel because it is located under water and those vacationers who are skilled in SCUBA-diving can only go deep down and visit that hotel according to the author.

Option C : The author believes Jules’ Lodge is a unique location for vacationers.

The above statement can't be more appropriate than Option A as this statement does not mention that skilled swimmers can only visit that hotel. This only explains about the uniqueness of the hotel that it is located under the water.

Option D : The author believes Jules’ Lodge is dangerous and should be avoided.

The above statement is false as author never mentioned that it is dangerous and should be avoided. He said that hotel is accessible for only those are skilled swimmers and can do SCUBA-diving.

What would life be like without the support of women?

Answers

Answer:

A world without the support of women would be very different from that in which we live in. It would be a world in which everyone must be self sustaining, it would be an angrier world, and it would be a world without feeling, emotion, and passion.

Explanation:

The answer depends on what you want in life, and what you value the most.

Saudi Arabia is a perfect example what a male-only society is like for those curious to know. Women are not to be seen, except to be hidden behind a wall, or a veil. They have no rights and no power of decision. They can be killed over the most trivial reasons without any charges facing the man. It is perhaps no coincidence that the Saudi female demographics takes a sudden dip when they are at the peak of their youth, beauty and honor-killing age.

Women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to contribute to religion, laws, politics. They (most of them) are not allowed to drive, bicycle, purchase or manage vegetables that have a penile appearances (ex bananas, cucumbers, eggplant), or be seen exposing any skin, be seen outside their home without a male guardian. No matter how young the male is he is in charge of and superior to the Saudi woman, even if the male is three years old, and she must obey him. The women are non-entities, only a permittable presence to give birth to children and to cook. Nothing else. They don’t even have the authority to make decisions in their own home, within their own four walls to which their are prisoners. They only exist, nothing else. With this idealistic male society you basically end up with is a very cold, emotionally stagnant and vicious society - a world shaped by men and a world constantly promoting and enabling hundreds of years of wars and bloodshed. Even nature around it seems to struggle with depression and flowers don’t bloom and everything is dusty, hot, dry and sandy.

If you prefer that - then yes, I guess your life and world would be much better off without women.

In contrary to that image you will find that the most successful and progressive nations in the world, and even through history, are the ones where women have had a greater presence. Their lives exist in tandem with men, not as an inferior or a superior - but just as important part of sharing life. And the more free the women are over their life and decisions, the more peaceful the countries tend to be in general. Take Scandinavia, for example, where women enjoy the highest degree of equal rights to men in the world. These societies, cultures and politics of social justice and equality for all was built on a huge influence from women and how women view the world around them. Women have a natural sense of tenderness for nature, for animals and for ‘the round peg in the square hole’. They feel empathy towards the marginalised. So they are the unseen force behind the laws of equal rights for all, protection of nature and animals, the right for people who are different, for gays, for minorities. In other words it’s women’s demands and views that are behind the laws that creates a democratic society. A peaceful and liberal society is the result.
If you prefer a Scandinavian society versus a Saudi one, then no, your life would not be better without women but you would stagnate and suffer greatly.

Answers

Answer:

For over three centuries a steady stream of men, women and children followed the beacon of liberty which this light symbolizes. They brought to us strength and moral fibre developed in a civilization centuries old but fired anew by the dream of a better life in America. They brought to one new country the cultures of a hundred old ones.

It has not been sufficiently emphasized in the teaching of our history that the overwhelming majority of those who came from the Nations of the Old World to our American shores were not the laggards, not the timorous, not the failures.

They were men and women who had the supreme courage to strike out for themselves, to abandon language and relatives, to start at the bottom without influence, without money and without knowledge of life in a very young civilization. We can say for all America what the Californians say of the Forty-Niners: "The cowards never started and the weak died by the way."

Perhaps Providence did prepare this American continent to be a place of the second chance. Certainly, millions of men and women have made it that. They adopted this homeland because in this land they found a home in which the things they most desired could be theirs—freedom of opportunity, freedom of thought, freedom to worship God. Here they found life because here there was freedom to live.

It is the memory of all these eager seeking millions that makes this one of America's places of great romance. Looking down this great harbor I like to think of the countless numbers of inbound vessels that have made this port. I like to think of the men and women who, with the break of dawn off Sandy Hook, have strained their eyes to the west for a first glimpse of the New World.

They came to us—most of them—in steerage. But they, in their humble quarters, saw things in these strange horizons which were denied to the eyes of those few who traveled in greater luxury.

They came to us speaking many tongues—but a single language, the universal language of human aspiration.

How well their hopes were justified is proved by the record of what they achieved. They not only found freedom in the New World, but by their effort and devotion they made the New World's freedom safer, richer, more far-reaching, more capable of growth.

Ellis island text:

The missionary questions the Italian family, and little Carmelita, thirteen years old, tells her story in some such way as follows:

"Our home was in Naples in the South of Italy. It is so beautiful there! And the sun shines all day long and every day, and we often sing our dear song, "La bella Napoli." We loved our dear sunny Italy so much!

But we were very poor, and father heard there is good times in America and plenty money; so one day he say good-by to us all and come over here. He not find plenty money, and sometimes he very poor, and it was long to wait, but by and by he find a good work and being to save money to bring us over.

"Every week my mother gotta letter, and every time it tell how much money my father saved. Father can't write himself, but he know a boy that can; and mother, she get a lady that she work for to read it to her. We not have so many schools in Italy, and when the father and mother were little they not have much chance; but my Italy now is like other countries and make more schools, and many children can go, but not all.

I learn a little, and the American lady that mother wash for, she teacha me the English. Father, he write that, when we come to America, we all shall go to the school; so we all want to make hurry to come to this land.

"At last, in a letter came money to buy the ticket for all of us, mother and grandmother and all the children. Mother think it much work to get us all ready, but we all helped; and, after all, there was not much to get ready, for we not own many things; and so at last we all were packed up, and every one had something to carry except baby. Even Theresa carried the birdcage, though she is only two.
