Courehero if the surface area of a cube is increased by a factor of 2, by what factor does the volume per unit area of surface of the cube change?

Answers

Answer 1

If the surface area of a cube is increased by a factor of 2, the volume per unit area of the cube would change by a factor of 1/2 or 0.5. To understand this, let's consider the relationship between the surface area and volume of a cube.

The surface area of a cube is given by 6s^2, where s is the length of one side of the cube. The volume of the cube is given by s^3. If we increase the surface area by a factor of 2, the new surface area would be 2 times the original surface area: 2 * 6s^2 = 12s^2. Now, let's calculate the volume per unit area, which is the volume divided by the surface area. The original volume per unit area is (s^3) / (6s^2) = s/6. When the surface area is increased by a factor of 2, the new volume per unit area becomes (s^3) / (12s^2) = s/12. Comparing the new volume per unit area (s/12) to the original volume per unit area (s/6), we find that the ratio is 1/2 or 0.5. Therefore, the volume per unit area of the cube changes by a factor of 0.5 when the surface area is increased by a factor of 2.

5. A gene has a base sequence of GTC. Due to a mutation, the base sequence changes to GTG. Answer the following questions using the codon table below.

4. Why is it is more important for DNA replication to be exact than for transcription or translation

Answers

It is more important for DNA replication to be exact than for transcription or translation to be exact because DNA is the genetic material that contains the instructions for building proteins.

The mutation from GTC to GTG within the genetic sequence induces a modification in the amino acid generated from the gene. This has the potential to exert an adverse influence on the functionality of the resulting protein.

What is mutation?

A mutation denotes an alteration in the DNA sequence of an organism. Various factors, such as inaccuracies during DNA replication, exposure to mutagenic agents in the environment, or viral infections, can instigate mutations. These genetic modifications can manifest as advantageous, detrimental, or inconsequential.

Mutations serve as a significant wellspring of genetic diversity within a population. This genetic diversity plays a vital role in the process of evolution, as it empowers populations to acclimate to shifts in their surroundings.

HELP ME PLEASE! List the steps scientists for using technology to find the half-life of an isotope.

Answers

For radioactive materials with short half-lives, you use a very sensitive calibrated detector to measure how many counts per second it is producing. Then using the exact same set up you do the same at a latter time. You use the two readings and the time between them to determine the half-life. You don’t have to wait exactly a half-life, you can do the math with any significant time difference. Also, you don’t need to know the absolute radioactivity, as long as the set up is the same you only need to know fraction by which it changed.

For radioactive materials with long half-lives that won’t work. Instead you approach the problem differently. You precisely measure the mass of a very pure sample of the radioactive material. You can use that to calculate the number of atoms in the sample. Then you put the sample in a counter that is calibrated to determine the absolute number of disintegrations happening in a given time. Now you know how many of them are disintegrating every second. You use the following equations:

Decays per Second = (Number of Atoms) x (Decay Constant)

Half-life = (Natural Log of 2) / (Decay Constant)

And you can calculate the half-life

The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is crucial for lipid synthesis. The organelle responsible for the synthesis of biomolecules is known as the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER). There won't be any lipid creation if SER is missing from the cell.

'What is SER and its functions?'

Most eukaryotic cells have the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (smooth ER), a membrane organelle. It is a portion of the endoplasmic reticulum's endomembrane system. The synthesis of lipids, the production of steroid hormones, the removal of toxic metabolic waste products, and the storage and utilization of calcium ions within the cell are its primary tasks. The absence of membrane-bound ribosomes sets the smooth ER apart from the other endoplasmic reticulum regions. The process of respiration can be divided into the cellular view to the general (cellular respiration to external respiration). Going from the cellular till the external we have:

1- Cellular respiration

Is the aerobic process by which living cells break down glucose molecules to form energy in the from of ATP, that can be divided in three stages, these are: glycolisis (break of glucose into pyruvate), Citric Acid Cycle (Krebs Cycle), and electron transport chain. In this respiration the cell machinery is responsible for from glucose and oxygen form water and carbon dioxide. All the process is intracellular.

2- Internal respiration

The internal respiration is the process of the exchange of gases between the cells and the tissues (internal environment of the body) by the blood vessels and the circulation od red blood cells that carry these gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide). The path of this process is: nose/mouth, pharynx, larynx, and trachea will have the cells oxigenated, the trachea branches and the bronchi will lead to the lungs when the gases exchanges in the tissue will happen. The red blood cells will do the local capture of the gases and the circulatory system will make those cells go to all the tissues in the body.

3- External respiration

The external respiration is the exchange of gases with the external environment. That process occurs in the lungs where the oxygen diffuses into the blood and carbon dioxide into the alveolar air. The internal and external respiration work together in the overall respiratory process, but one happen in the tissues and the other between external environments.

4- How they work together?

The three process are essential for breathing, that's because they work into different levels of tissue and systemic organization. The cellular is the one in the cells that provide the biochemical reactions necessary to the synthesis and conversion of molecules, being the metabolic basis for the respiration to take place, the internal respiration is responsible to distribute the gases into the tissues to make the cellular step possible, while the external respiration makes possible the exchange outside the tissues levels and makes possible to balance the distribution and concentration of the gases in the body.

Answers

In this small, isolated population of field mice, there is a single locus with three alleles that controls coat color.

Tan individuals have the lowest relative fitness because they are the most obvious to predators, while black individuals have the highest relative fitness. This means that black individuals are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing on their advantageous traits to their offspring. If the current population consists only of tan individuals, it suggests that black and dark brown individuals have been selectively eliminated over time due to predation, reducing the frequency of the beneficial alleles in the population. This process of natural selection, where certain traits are favored and others are selected against, can lead to changes in allele frequencies within a population over time. Therefore, natural selection is the most likely evolutionary force that produced the recent change in coat color allele frequencies in this population of field mice.
