W.E.B Du Bois and Booker T. Washington similarities and differences
Two great leaders of the black community in the late 19th and 20th century were W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington. However, they sharply disagreed on strategies for black social and economic progress. Their opposing philosophies can be found in much of today’s discussions over how to end class and racial injustice, what is the role of black leadership, and what do the ‘haves’ owe the ‘have-nots’ in the black community.
Booker T. Washington, educator, reformer and the most influentional black leader of his time (1856-1915) preached a philosophy of self-help, racial solidarity and accomodation. He urged blacks to accept discrimination for the time being and concentrate on elevating themselves through hard work and material prosperity. He believed in education in the crafts, industrial and farming skills and the cultivation of the virtues of patience, enterprise and thrift. This, he said, would win the respect of whites and lead to African Americans being fully accepted as citizens and integrated into all strata of society.
W.E.B. Du Bois, a towering black intellectual, scholar and political thinker (1868-1963) said no–Washington’s strategy would serve only to perpetuate white oppression. Du Bois advocated political action and a civil rights agenda (he helped found the NAACP). In addition, he argued that social change could be accomplished by developing the small group of college-educated blacks he called “the Talented Tenth:”
“The Negro Race, like all races, is going to be saved by its exceptional men. The problem of education then, among Negroes, must first of all deal with the “Talented Tenth.” It is the problem of developing the best of this race that they may guide the Mass away from the contamination and death of the worst.”
At the time, the Washington/Du Bois dispute polarized African American leaders into two wings–the ‘conservative’ supporters of Washington and his ‘radical’ critics. The Du Bois philosophy of agitation and protest for civil rights flowed directly into the Civil Rights movement which began to develop in the 1950’s and exploded in the 1960’s. Booker T. today is associated, perhaps unfairly, with the self-help/colorblind/Republican/Clarence Thomas/Thomas Sowell wing of the black community and its leaders. The Nation of Islam and Maulana Karenga’s Afrocentrism derive too from this strand out of Booker T.’s philosophy. However, the latter advocated withdrawal from the mainstream in the name of economic advancement.

What were a common diversion for urban dwellers, spreading to most areas of the country by the early nineteenth century
By the early nineteenth century, industrial development, population growth, and the explosive increase of jobs in cities had become the most popular pastimes for urban residents.
Early in the nineteenth century, the rate of industrial growth was very rapid, and for economic reasons, a large number of rural residents moved to metropolitan areas. Due to this, urban problems including squalor, traffic congestion, pollution, and poor sanitation quickly got worse.
This led to the development of slums, an uptick in crime, and a rise in poverty. Due to this enormous disparity, the socioeconomic landscape miraculously changed, and the Western world rose to prominence.

the limits of the enlightenment. what were some of these limits ?|
It is not surprising that as you enter the late 1700s and early 1800s, you have a whole string of revolutions, especially in the Americas, to a large extent inspired by the ideas of the Enlightenment, things like life, liberty, and health.
John Locke was only one of the actors who would figure prominently in this roughly 100-year period. These things are mentioned in the Declaration of Independence of the United States. These facts are mentioned in relation to the French Revolution.
These concepts are mentioned in the numerous Latin American revolutions. One of the reasons the Enlightenment occurred at the time it did was that society now had the obligation to think a little bit deeper about these ideas because it was gaining more and more power as a result of the Scientific Revolution. This responsibility may have been one of the reasons for the Enlightenment's timing.
How much did the Enlightenment benefit the world, and how much of its promise was not realized? Or perhaps events like Era War I and World War II served as the birth pains or the in-between stage of the pre-Enlightenment world. So, how close are we really to achieving those goals?

His transatlantic voyages paved the way for European exploration, exploitation, and colonisation of the Americas. He started out in the Portuguese commercial navy as a young seaman. He managed to secure the support of Ferdinand II and Isabella I of Spain in 1492 for an effort to reach Asia by sailing westward over what was thought to be open water. In August 1492, he embarked on his maiden journey on the Santa Mara, Nia, and Pinta. On his way back to Spain in 1493, he sailed around Hispaniola's northern coast.

Washington also suggests that African Americans should focus on vocational education and industrial skills, rather than pursuing higher education and political power, in order to achieve economic independence and social acceptance. Washington believes that African Americans learned a lot during the period of their enslavement.
According to him, African Americans learned how to be hardworking and disciplined, which he thinks will help them become successful in the future. provide a short simple rationale for the observed differences spartan
The observed differences in Spartan society can be attributed to several factors, including the unique Spartan values, military-focused lifestyle, and rigorous training system.
Firstly, Spartan society placed a strong emphasis on discipline, physical strength, and military prowess.
The primary goal of Spartan life was to produce exceptional soldiers who could defend the state.
Secondly, the Spartan lifestyle was highly regimented and focused on communal living.
From a young age, Spartan citizens underwent strict training and education designed to mold them into disciplined warriors. This training system, known as the Agoge, instilled endurance, obedience, and a sense of duty to the state.
Moreover, the Spartans valued equality among their citizens. Unlike other Greek city-states where social hierarchies were prevalent, Spartans aimed to minimize social distinctions and foster a sense of unity and cohesion.
Furthermore, the Spartan system of government, known as a dual monarchy, reinforced their military-focused culture. Two kings ruled simultaneously, one with a primarily military role and the other overseeing religious matters.

Short-term and long-term causes of World War I are the major factors that led to the deadliest war in human history. Long-term causes refer to those that were deeply rooted in history, such as nationalistic ideologies, arms race, imperialism, alliances, and the 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria.
While short-term causes were immediate and included the inability of the European powers to control the unfolding events, the mobilization of armies, and the invasion of Belgium by Germany. In the period leading up to WW1, nationalism united or divided citizens in different ways. Nationalism led to the creation of political and social entities that were centered on a shared identity and common goals, thereby unifying people with common interests. However, it also divided people, leading to the rise of extremist ideologies and intolerance towards those of different backgrounds, cultures, or ethnicities.
Nationalism played a significant role in the period leading up to WW1, which was characterized by a growing sense of patriotism and loyalty to one's nation. As a result, countries became more assertive in their foreign policies and aggressive in their pursuit of territorial and economic expansion. This contributed to the destabilization of the balance of power in Europe and ultimately led to the outbreak of the First World War.

what supreme court case overturned plessy v. ferguson
The Supreme Court case that overturned Plessy v. Ferguson was Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, 347 U.S. 483 (1954). The decision in this case declared segregation in public education unconstitutional and overturned Plessy v. Ferguson's "separate but equal" doctrine which had allowed states to pass laws requiring racial segregation.
The Court held that the doctrine had a negative effect on African American students and that it denied them equal protection under the law. The Court ruled that school segregation was a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, which reads in part that "no state shall deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
This meant that states could no longer deny African Americans the same access to education and other public services that white people could enjoy. This case was a major victory for civil rights and helped to end segregation in the United States.
