How does the interaction between Helmer and Nora advance the plot? A Doll's House.
The interactions between Helmer and Nora in "A Doll's House" drive the plot by exposing the power dynamics within their marriage, sparking Nora's awakening, and leading to the revelation of her secret, ultimately setting the stage for her transformation and the play's dramatic resolution.
However, as the play progresses, their conversations and interactions unveil the deep-rooted conflicts and power dynamics within their marriage.
Through their interactions, the plot is propelled forward as Helmer's condescending and patronizing attitude towards Nora becomes increasingly apparent. His insistence on controlling and infantilizing her serves as a catalyst for Nora's awakening and desire for independence. As their discussions unfold, Nora begins to question societal expectations and her own role as a wife and mother, setting the stage for her eventual rebellion against the oppressive constraints of her marriage.
Moreover, the conversations between Helmer and Nora reveal the extent of Nora's deception and the secret she has been harboring throughout their marriage. This revelation serves as a major turning point in the plot, as Nora's decision to leave Helmer and pursue her own identity becomes the central conflict of the play.
In summary, the interactions between Helmer and Nora in "A Doll's House" drive the plot by exposing the power dynamics within their marriage, sparking Nora's awakening, and leading to the revelation of her secret, ultimately setting the stage for her transformation and the play's dramatic resolution.

What word best describes the tone of this excerpt from "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe?
I looked upon the scene before me-upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain-upon the bleak walls-upon
the vacant eye-like windows-upon a few rank sedges-and upon a few white trunks of decayed trees-with an utter depression of soul
which I can compare to no earthly sensation more properly than to the after-dream of the reveller upon oplum--the bitter lapse into
everyday life—the hideous dropping off of the vell. There was an iciness, a sinking, a sickening of the heart-an unredeemed dreariness of
thought which no goading of the Imagination could torture into aught of the sublime. What was it-I paused to think-what was it that so
unnerved me in the contemplation of the House of Usher? It was a mystery all Insoluble; nor could I grapple with the shadowy fancies that
crowded upon me as I pondered. I was forced to fall back upon the unsatisfactory conclusion, that while, beyond doubt, there are
combinations of very simple natural objects which have the power of thus affecting us, still, the analysis of this power lies among
considerations beyond our depth. It was possible, I reflected, that a mere different arrangement of the particulars of the scene, of the
details of the picture, would be sufficient to modify, or perhaps to annihilate its capacity for sorrowful Impression; and, acting upon this
idea, I reined my horse to the precipitous brink of a black and lurid tarn that lay in unruffled lustre by the dwelling, and gazed down-but
with a shudder even more thrilling than before-upon the remodelled and Inverted Images of the gray sedge, and the ghastly tree-stems,
and the vacant and eye-like windows.

should the United States be using oil from the reserve in
order to bring down the cost of gasoline?
Answer: No, the reserves are meant for emergencies like in wars and depressions, not times where supplies are short. Having the prices at the gas pump be super high really sucks but it will be short lived. In a few years the price of gas will go back down to where it was originally. There are other ways to fight the shortage of gas than tapping into our reserves. This is a controversial claim so don't use this on your project if you don't agree with it but, the government needs to hand out the permits its with-holding from oil companies. Under the Trump Administration, oil companies where given out a lot of permits to drill. This in turn brought the prices of gas down. Now with the big push of EVs and renewable energy sources under the Biden Administration, drilling permits are being withheld. Even if you don't like oil being drilled because it ruins the environment or it makes horses jump to the moon, oil needs to be drilled a little bit longer until the supply shortages are over with.

What is language?
Language is a formally organized method of communication. Languages, which can be communicated in a variety of ways, including spoken, sign, and written language, are the primary means by which humans communicate. The writing systems of many languages, particularly the most widely spoken ones, enable the recording of sounds or signals for later activation. Language used by people varies drastically between cultures and over time.
Human languages are productive and displacing, and they depend on social convention and education.
After passing through Latin lingua, "language; tongue," and Old French language, the English term language eventually descended from Proto-Indo-European *dnhwéh2s, "tongue, speech, language." The term is occasionally used to describe codes, cyphers, and other types of artificially created communication systems, including technically defined computer programming languages. A formal language in this sense is a set of signals for encoding and decoding information, as opposed to typical human languages. This article focuses specifically on the characteristics of natural human language as it is understood by linguists.

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True
A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High
[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.
[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."
[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.
[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).
[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.
[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.
What are two strategies the speaker uses to develop the point that voluntour opportunities are not legitimate ways to learn about other cultures?
